The Denville Police Department handled 3,733 calls for service in September 2026, an increase of 468 over August, according to the monthly recap the department released Thursday.
The report counts 1,162 motor vehicle encounters and 62 crashes in the township last month. Officers made 17 adult arrests, four of them for driving while intoxicated, and responded to 71 alarm and 911 calls.
Officers also logged 100 fire and medical assists, 11 mental health crisis or missing person calls, six domestic incidents, 42 animal control calls and 19 assists to other agencies. They completed 1,327 property checks, took part in 292 community policing events and handled 614 other police services. The drone went up six times, compared with once in our August 2026 recap coverage.
The recap highlighted one case. Police said an officer stopped a vehicle on Route 46 East at about 7:11 p.m. on Sept. 10 after seeing it driven in a careless manner. During the investigation, officers found more than 25 pounds of marijuana, a large amount of U.S. currency and drug paraphernalia, according to the department.
The driver, identified as Ebraheem Al-Zanam, was charged with first-degree distribution of over 25 pounds of marijuana, third-degree money laundering and fourth-degree possession of over 6 ounces of marijuana, plus motor vehicle offenses including careless driving, tinted windows and following too closely. Police said he was committed to the Morris County Correctional Facility pending a future court appearance.
With the school year underway, the department again reminded drivers that New Jersey law requires them to stop for a school bus with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended.
The department posts the recap on its official Facebook page each month. Questions or suggestions can go to the Community Services Bureau at 973-627-4900, extension 383. Non-emergency incidents can be filed through the online reporting portal.
