Morris Knolls football’s playoff run ended one point short of a sectional final. The Golden Eagles lost 28-27 at Northern Highlands in Allendale on Friday, Nov. 6, in the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 4 semifinals, according to the official game page on MaxPreps.

The loss closes the season for the third-seeded Golden Eagles at 8-3. Second-seeded Northern Highlands, which hosted as the higher seed, improved to 7-3 and advances to the sectional final.

Friday’s game fit a pattern for this team: when Morris Knolls lost, it lost close. All three defeats came by eight points or fewer, starting with a 28-20 loss at Roxbury in Week 2 and a 28-21 home loss to Chatham on Oct. 24 that snapped a six-game winning streak.

Most other nights were not close. The Golden Eagles scored 424 points and allowed 205 over 11 games, an average of more than 38 points per game, and finished first in their league at 3-1. They opened the playoffs with a 42-21 home win over Summit on Oct. 30 to set up the trip to Allendale.

Fans who missed the semifinal can watch the full replay on the NFHS Network, the streaming partner of the state athletic association.

Morris Knolls girls soccer is still alive in its own state tournament, and our team will keep following the Golden Eagles through the rest of the fall season.
