Denville resident Raymond Jones is one of six local veterans who will receive a Morris County Distinguished Military Service Medal at the county’s annual Veterans Day ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 12, 2026.

The Morris County Board of County Commissioners announced the honorees on Oct. 27. The ceremony begins at 7 p.m. in the Administration and Records Building, 10 Court St., Morristown, and the public is welcome. Residents who cannot attend can watch the program live on the county’s Facebook page.

Jones will be honored alongside Calvin F. Smith of Montville, Darwin R. Martell of Wharton, Clifford Keezer and Robert M. Basinski of Boonton, and Thomas Ryan of Pompton Plains in Pequannock Township.

This year’s program will also remember two local patriots of the American Revolution in a “Morris County Veterans of Valor” segment, which closes out the county’s celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Morris County is also extending its part in Operation Green Light, the national campaign that asks people to display green lights from Nov. 4 through Veterans Day, Nov. 11. The county will keep its lights on through the night of the ceremony and is inviting homes and businesses to join in.

Full ceremony details are in the county’s official announcement, and more on the annual event is on the county’s Veterans Day event page.

The ceremony follows a recent stop by New Jersey’s first veteran advocate at the Morris County veterans office.
