U.S. Sen. Cory Booker has won reelection in New Jersey, earning a third full term in the Senate. The Associated Press called the race for the Democrat at 8:01 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, just minutes after polls closed across the state.

Cory Booker elected to a third Senate term

Booker defeated Republican Justin Murphy, an attorney and former Tabernacle Township committeeman. Independent Veronica Fernandez and Socialist Workers Party candidate Joanne Kuniansky were also on the ballot.

Booker first went to the Senate after winning a 2013 special election following the death of Sen. Frank Lautenberg. He won a full six-year term in 2014 and was reelected in 2020. Before heading to Washington, he served on the Newark City Council and as mayor of Newark.

He ran unopposed in the June Democratic primary and made cost of living the centerpiece of his campaign, pointing to his Keep Your Pay Act, a proposal to expand the child tax credit and eliminate federal income taxes on the first $75,000 earned by most households.

Voters here in Denville and across Morris County also cast ballots Tuesday for all 12 of New Jersey’s U.S. House seats, along with county and local races. Analilia Mejia won a full term in NJ-11, the district that includes Denville.
