Denville police arrested two Morristown men on drunken driving charges in separate October incidents, one after a crash on Mount Pleasant Turnpike and the other after a traffic stop on Route 10, according to the department.

The more recent case began at about 9:22 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 19, 2026, when officers were sent to a single-vehicle crash on Mount Pleasant Turnpike. The driver had left before police got there. Officers later found him, saw signs that he may have been impaired and gave him field sobriety tests.

Karlos Mesa, 25, was taken to police headquarters for processing. He was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to a chemical test, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain a lane, failure to report an accident, having an open container in a vehicle and driving without a license, along with summonses for not having registration and insurance cards. He was released pending a date in Denville Municipal Court.

The earlier arrest came at about midnight on Thursday, Oct. 15, when officers stopped a car on Route 10 that police said was drifting out of its lane and following another vehicle too closely. Edilson Marroquin-Martinez, 21, was charged with DWI, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain a lane, following too closely and having an open container, plus summonses for not having registration and insurance cards. He was also released pending a municipal court date.
