Denville Police have charged two women after officers say more than $4,000 in merchandise was taken from the CVS at 276 East Main Street.
Officers were sent to the store at about 3:30 p.m. on Monday, July 20, 2026, for a report of a shoplifting in progress. Investigators determined the two women had allegedly removed merchandise valued at over $4,000.
Kelsey Stephens, 36, of Hopatcong, was charged with two counts of third-degree shoplifting. Stephanie Robinson, 56, of East Orange, was charged with third-degree shoplifting and with possession of drug paraphernalia, a disorderly persons offense, after officers found paraphernalia in her possession during the investigation.
Both women were processed at Denville Police Headquarters and released pending future appearances in Morris County Superior Court.
Under New Jersey law, shoplifting is graded as a third-degree crime when the full retail value of the merchandise is more than $500 and less than $75,000. A third-degree conviction can carry a state prison term of three to five years.
It is at least the second large retail theft reported at the same East Main Street store this year. In April, Denville Police arrested two people after roughly $3,000 in merchandise was taken from the CVS.
The department logged 3,010 calls for service in June, including 25 adult arrests. Anyone with information about retail theft in town can contact the Denville Police Department at 973-627-4900.
Charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
